World Almanac
and Book of Facts

Picture

The World Almanac and Book of Facts first came out in 1868. It is the best-selling reference book of all time. The paperback edition is $15 while the hardback edition is $35. The World Almanac and Book of Facts would be a great book to engage students. On the World Almanac website there is a section for teachers and parents. This sections has activity suggestions. The website also has a section at the top right that gives information about the current date. I find the Table of Contents especially useful for students searching for specific information on a topic. Many students enjoy browsing the almanac and learning about various topics as they browse. I appreciate that the top of the Table of Contents has Special Features and a Year in Review easily visible at the top. The pages in the almanac are straight forward and they get straight to the point with facts and information. I feel that students would particularly enjoy the sports section of the almanac. I recently added many sports books and biographies to our library and students have kept those checked out. I’d like to take time to showcase different sections of the almanac to students to spark their interests.
