Georgia Aerial Photographs The Georgia Aerial Photographs website has aerial photographs of counties in Georgia from various years. For example. Fayette County has an index that goes back to 1937 and photographs and aerial photographs that date back to 1942. The website has photographs of this same county in 1949, 1955, 1958, 1965, 1971, and 1978. The aerial photographs are placed side by side to create a photo mosaic index of each county. This is an interesting resource for students to view. These were black and white photographs and taken from the air in 1942, that is amazing in itself. Teacher can express how significant this is while allowing students to view the differences in geography over time. Students can also see the improvements to cartography over time. It may interest students enough to learn more about the history of creating maps. Teachers can assign students areas of the school, community, or house to map and show their understanding of how maps work. One of the Third grade standards is for students to learn about the different regions in Georgia. This website would be useful for third grade teachers to show the different areas in Georgia. Grades: 3-12. Subject(s): Geography. Overall rating: 7.
