The Georgia Department of Education’s directory is an informative website for teachers, and community members interested in education in Georgia. The website has tabs for offices, divisions, programs and initiatives, data and reporting, learning and curriculum, state board and policy, finance and operations, and information for contacting the Georgia Department of Education. The divisions tab has more information about curriculum, technology, finances, external affairs, school improvement, assessment and accountability. You could explore this website for days and not have seen everything it has to offer.
I searched Professional Development and found a definition for professional development in education. There is also an explanation of the importance of short term and long term professional development. The website also displays upcoming events, seminars and conferences. There is also information about upcoming webinars.
The Data and Reporting section shows enrollment information, free and reduced lunch percentages, graduation rates, ethnicity rates and gender in schools. The policy section is also very important for schools and teachers. The county I worked in recently sent an email restating the church and state are separate. This email caused mass confusion from educators and community members. This website is a great place to show how this is not a new policy and does not only apply to our county. It is actually a federal policy. This information is useful for policy makers, teachers, administrators and community members.
